I had yet another reminder of how deep my bookish tendencies go when I stepped into the local library. We went to look for DVDs, but once there, I couldn’t resist picking up a few books, too. I felt rather silly about this, especially since I have shelves of books at home, patiently awaiting my attention.

We were in a small branch library, and I wasn’t able to find any of the books at the top of my reading list, so I had to settle for browsing the non-fiction section. I ended up with four books about beading, color schemes in decorating, dressing properly, and career advancement.

I can’t visit libraries too often, because then I want to read everything. So moderation is the key, and I think I did pretty well on this trip. My stack of books is very manageable, unlike my sister’s gravity defying towers.

The most surprising aspect of this trip (for me) was how happy I was to be back in a library. During college I loved the library because it was a source of wonderful information for my research projects. I had forgotten about the joy of discovering unexpected treasures on surprising topics.

Somehow, getting books from the library is different from browsing the internet, though I often find unexpected treasures online, too. I think that many of my family members and friends like libraries too. However, our local library is currently having a membership drive, so it seems that my warm and fuzzy library feelings aren’t the norm.
