I’m listening with amazement as my husband talks to a Charter tech, again. We’ve been trying to solve a problem for five days now, and we’ve spent six or seven hours on the phone with Charter people. We’ve had our calls dropped. We’ve been lied to. I’ve even called the corporate offices. The people at the corporate offices were nicer than the techs, but they did not solve my problem.

After all of this, I was glad to read that Charter has not been profitable for 10 years, and that its stock is selling for 8 cents/share. From reading other people’s horror stories online, I am surprised that Charter has any customers left at all. If they do go bankrupt, as the article suggests, I expect to see people dancing in the streets. Unfortunately there are not many options for high-speed internet.

Tim spent another 90 minutes on the phone with them tonight, and all we got was another promise that the problem would be solved. This is outrageous. Talking to these people is like being in the middle of a bad movie. I’ve heard stories before about people trapped in nightmare situations with customer disservice but now I know how incredibly frustrating it is. I don’t know how the Charter employees we’ve talked to can sleep at night. Surely their consciences must bother them. No one should treat another human being like they have treated us.

Sorry for the rant. I know that this post probably won’t do much good, but I felt like I had to speak up and say something. Evil like that should be exposed. People should not be able to lie and get away with it. It just isn’t right.

Update Feb 16 2009: be sure to read the end of the story here.

  1. I love the Charter ads now on your toolbar! Is that to appease you for their horrendous costumer service? Or maybe they’re supposed to counteract the bad thoughts we might have about Charter?

  2. No, it’s just that I’m working on setting up Google AdSense for my blog. It looks at the words on your site and tries to serve up ads that match them. Since the Charter post was on top, that’s what it picked. I’m still tweaking it. :)
